Alberta has been ranked as Canada’s second most hockey-obsessed province in a new study based on Google searches.
The research by sports and entertainment platform Tooniebet analyzed monthly search volumes for hockey-related keywords, including “Auston Matthews,” “Cale Makar,” “Calgary Flames,” “Canada Winter Games hockey” and “Canadian Hockey League,” across all 10 provinces and three territories.
Alberta generated 3,005,130 searches among 4,849,906 residents — 620 searches per 1,000 people — which is 49.40 per cent above the national average of 415.
A spokesperson for Tooniebet said the data show Canadians are following everything from NHL stars to junior hockey year-round.
