A 39-year-old man facing charges of sexual offences against children made a brief appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Wednesday.
There is a publication ban for any information that could identify the victims. At this time, the relationship between the man and the victim(s) is unknown so his name will not be published.
While the man appeared via CCTV from jail, Legal Aid lawyer Zak Anderson, on behalf of colleague Suzanne Lalonde, represented the man.
Anderson told the court that Legal Aid is looking to find a lawyer to take on the case and asked for an adjournment.
According to police, the man was arrested after a search warrant was executed in February as part of a firearms investigation. Property seized by the police included several electronic devices.
The man was released from custody on conditions, but allegedly failed to attend court. He was arrested in July on a warrant.
Police searched the electronic devices seized and found child pornography and a separate investigation was opened with the assistance of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
The man is facing charges including:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Assault with a weapon
- Failure to attend court
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is prohibited
- Careless use of a firearm
- Possession of a weapon while prohibited
- Failure to comply with an undertaking
- Making child pornography
- Sexual interference
- Invitation of sexual touching
- Sexual assault
- Accessing child pornography
- Arranging to commit a sexual offence against a child
- Possession of child pornography
- Luring a child
The man’s case has been adjourned to Sept. 3 in Moose Jaw Provincial Court.
