Athletes from Red Deer are helping push Team Alberta into medal contention at the 2025 Canada Summer Games.

In men’s volleyball, Alberta advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 pool record and will face Newfoundland on Friday (August 22).

Red Deer’s Tyson DeZutter, who recently represented Canada at the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship in Uzbekistan, is among six players on the roster with national-level experience.

DeZutter made his mark on the international stage, leading Canada in scoring with 123 points and ranking as the second-highest scorer among all North American players.

In men’s box lacrosse, Alberta wrapped up round-robin play with a 5-2 win over Nova Scotia, finishing 2-2 before meeting Saskatchewan in Friday’s quarterfinals.

Red Deer’s Kian Siemens has been a key part of the squad and first fell in love with the sport after watching a National Lacrosse League game on TV and has since gone on to win back-to-back provincial titles and represent Alberta at the Games.

As of Thursday, Team Alberta’s medal count sits at 50:

  • Gold: 13
  • Silver: 20
  • Bronze: 17
