The 2025 Canada Summer Games wrapped up last night in St. John's, Newfoundland. Three-time gold medal winning diver Lila Stewart and para-athlete Brendan Cote Williams, with two gold medals of his own, led Saskatchewan into the closing ceremony.

Seventeen-year-old Stewart led the way for Team Sask in the second half of the Games, earning her first gold medal on Tuesday, August 19th with a commanding performance in the Women’s Artistic Dive event. The next day, she placed third in the 3m Springboard to earn bronze. On Thursday, she returned to the top of the standings to take gold in the 1m Springboard. Finally, on August 24th, she – along with teammates Kash Tarasoff and Isa Koop – put on a masterclass performance in the Team event, besting top competitors Quebec by 48.25 points to earn her third gold medal.

Cote-Williamson is from Cote First Nation and celebrated his 21st birthday at the Games – on the same day that he broke his own Athletics Canada national record in the T47 100m race. His top placing and time of 11.50 in that preliminary race carried him forward to Friday’s final, where he raced to a gold medal in a time of 11.77. On Saturday, the final day of track races at the Fortis Canada Games Athletic Complex, he ran 52.07 in the para-ambulatory 400m to capture another gold medal.

Team Sask closed the event with 48 total medals — 13 gold, 14 silver and 21 bronze.

The Roughriders led 15-14 in the first 30 minutes, but a dominant second half powered the Stampeders to a 32-15 victory over Saskatchewan at McMahon Stadium on Saturday.

The Riders remain in first place with a league-best 8-2 record. Both losses are to the now 7-3 Calgary.

The Toronto Blue Jays open a three-game series tonight against the visiting Minnesota Twins after taking two of three from the Marlins over the weekend in Miami. The Jays lead the AL East division by five games over the Boston Red Sox.
