While things started off cloudy, the sun eventually shone warm and bright on the first-ever Cowboys and Chrome, presented by ReMax, event in Swift Current.
The Swift Current Ag n' Ex planned the event as a fundraiser, hoping to draw in some support so they can fund their regular season of shows like Frontier Days. Not only did Swift Current show up, but they showed up in their best rides.
Megan Muri, event manager for the Swift Current Ag n' Ex, was more than a little surprised by how many turned up for the car show between the Palliser Pavilion and the Stockade Building.
"The show and shine was a big surprise at how well it's been received," said Muri. "So that's great to see."
Considering the weekend also had the Swift Current Drag Racing Association firing on all cylinders at the Airport for a race weekend, the turnout at the car show was doubly impressive.
Of course, another big draw for the event was the bull riding, featuring official riders from the Bull Riders of Canada. The event saw its fair share of tumbles and throws, but there was still some grit to be displayed as the riders went for the coveted eight-second ride.
"Everyone at the bull riding has been great to work with, so that's been really fun," said Muri.
Winning the Long Round, the Championship Round, and the Average was Jeremy Maisonneuve, from Val-des-Monts, Quebec. His total winnings amounted to $5,220.
The event also featured stock car races and a Saloon cabaret. Outside both of those events were the food trucks, parked in the Kinetic Park parking lot.
"The food trucks are rocking, and it smells really good," said Muri.
This event was brought together as a fundraiser for the Ag n' Ex to help generate more money for their regular event roster.
"Our usual fundraising approach wasn't working as well as it had in the past, and we figured we're good at planning parties and selling beer and planning rodeo events," said Muri. "So that's what we did."
