The Estevan Motor Speedway hosted the final races of their season last night, as racers grabbed their final points on the way to the championships. All five classes were on the speedway as the season came to an end, crowning five winners.
Speedway President Brad Pierson talks about the night and how the track held up.
"It was a very good night. We ran caution-free through all of our heats and only had two cautions in the features. We were done in two hours and 15 minutes, and on top of that, we just had some great racing. Our track conditions were just fantastic, and just overall just a really good night."
The five winners were a mix of familiar racing names and new champions, with all five earning their way to the top.
The winners include:
IMCA Sport Mod - Gabriel Dechamp

Slingshot - Eli Turnbull

IMCA Stock Car - Kyle Schlopp

Modified - Kody Schlopp

Hobby Stock - Diezel Raynard

Besides the racers, the community also showed up to see the finale of this season's racing action, despite some initial weather worries, says Pierson.
"Our crowd was good, I think the weather scared a lot of people, it was really windy and overcast, and then all of a sudden, seven o'clock hit and the wind stopped and it turned out to be a nice evening. So it's a bit cooler than we probably anticipated, but our crowd was still pretty decent."
With the racing season wrapped up at the Speedway, Pierson looks back on a year that was challenging but rewarding.
"I think it was a challenging year for us with a few things. We've never had the weather push us that hard in my handful of years on the board. It was a lot of weather challenges this year, and with the moisture, it caused some grief with the track. Our track conditions, the dirt track, it's so much work to try to prepare it."
"We still had one cancelled event, but we made up for one of our other cancelled events, and overall, I think I'm pretty happy with the way things went. Very competitive racing and we had a big game, a lot of new sponsors on board that were very happy with getting involved with us, and I think we've made some good improvements out at the Speedway again."
After the championship dust has settled, Pierson says they'll be getting ready to provide another great year of racing action.
"On to next year and hopefully we're not fighting with so much weather, but we'll always try to do our best for the racers and provide the best racing service we can and the best entertainment for our community."
Before the speedway ends for the season, they're set to host the Enduro Races on September 13th, with Pierson encouraging people to head to their Facebook page or website to sign up.
