Swift Current Mayor Al Bridal is disappointed to see yet another wave of vandalism in the city.

Over the weekend, a number of street signs and traffic signs were vandalized, with some of them going missing entirely.

Bridal pointed out the fact that not only does this cost hundreds of dollars in taxpayer dollars to replace and repair, but it can also lead to serious incidents.

"The worst part about vandalizing the signs is when they steal a stop sign and then somebody blows through an intersection and gets into an accident," said Bridal. "And it really should be the vandal's responsibility."

Bridal noted that this comes after a summer that was earlier plagued by vandalism at public parks.

He is hopeful that if anyone knows who committed these sign crimes, they will turn that information over to the Swift Current Municipal RCMP.

"Because it is an offence to steal and to break signs," said Bridal.

The repair costs will come out of the Streets budget, with the City being forced to order new street signs to replace the missing ones. Bridal had no estimate for how long it would take for all the signs to be fixed, but confirmed crews are working on it.

"I shake my head sometimes," said Bridal. "Who would think it's a good idea to steal a stop sign, break off a stop sign or steal a street sign? I just shake my head."
