Estevan police had a busy weekend, responding to a string of calls involving domestic disputes, impaired driving, and breaches of court-imposed conditions. Officers say their focus remains on public safety, mediation, and supporting vulnerable community members.
On Friday, August 22, police responded to a report initially described as a domestic in progress. Upon arrival, it was clarified as a dispute between a landlord and a tenant. Statements were taken, and the matter remains under investigation. In a separate incident, officers mediated a situation where a landlord had changed the locks on a residence without providing proper notice to the tenant.
That day also saw reports of two patrons allegedly trying to start a fight at a local bar, though both had left before police arrival. Curfew checks were conducted on four individuals in the city, with two found in violation of their conditions; breach charges are pending.
Police were called to a home where an impaired driver reportedly assaulted a family member. The male suspect was arrested, transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital for breath samples, and faces impaired driving and assault charges. He was released the next morning with the condition of no contact with the victim.
Other incidents included safely returning a lost, intoxicated female, investigating noise complaints related to barking dogs (found to be unfounded), and a traffic stop where a female driver was arrested for impaired driving, issued a three-day license suspension, and had her vehicle impounded. Police also checked on reports of rocks being thrown at a residence (unfounded), handled a female intoxicated in a local business breaching court-imposed conditions, and mediated a family dispute between a mother and daughter.
Over Saturday and Sunday, August 23–24, officers continued their work in the community. Police and the Police and Crisis Team (PACT) assisted a youth experiencing a mental health crisis at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Multiple individuals were arrested for breaching Conditional Sentence Orders after failing curfew checks, including a couple living together and another woman.
Police also arrested an intoxicated male in public until he was sober enough to be released and mediated another domestic disturbance, with one party agreeing to leave for the night to prevent further conflict.
