A Weyburn man was taken into custody by the Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) over the weekend, resulting in multiple charges.
According to a release by the MHPS, officers were conducting property checks in an industrial area on Saturday when they spotted a Ford F150 behaving suspiciously. They attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver fled from the police at a high speed. In consideration of public safety, no pursuit ensued. Police were able to identify the driver after an investigation.
The following day, the MHPS patrol unit responded to a complaint regarding a vehicle, and located a Ford F150 truck, which was confirmed to be the same one from the previous incident. The truck once again fled from the police at a high speed.
While no pursuit was initiated for public safety, police tactics allowed the truck to be tracked to a certain neighbourhood where they located the truck. Upon the arrival of the police, the driver re-entered the truck and intentionally rammed the police vehicle before fleeing on foot. A brief foot chase allowed the suspect to be apprehended.
The 24-year-old Weyburn man is in the custody of the MHPS and faces charges including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, assault to resist arrest, resisting a police officer, driving while suspended, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
