The City of Estevan will be holding another discussion on possibly rezoning the area around Wellock Road from single-family to multi-use, as Sector One Construction and Verity Developments want to change plans in the area.

A public hearing was held earlier this month as part of the City Council meeting, with the attending councillors voting to table the discussion for another time.

Some common concerns from councillors and the public included the area moving from R1, or single-family, zoning to R4, or mixed-use, zoning, an increased impact on local traffic and sewer systems, aesthetic differences with the change, and what they saw as a lack of communication between the developers and the community.

The decision came as councillors disagreed as to whether to allow the rezoning, with those in opposition wanting more information from the builders, which they hope will be provided at this new public hearing.

The new public hearing will take place on September 8th, during the regular council meeting, with councillors again voting on the bylaw to change the zoning.

The public may make presentations during the public hearing set for the 8th, with the City asking people to contact them with inquiries ahead of time at cityclerk@estevan.ca, or by mailing to City Hall, 1102 - Fourth Street, Estevan, S4A 0W7. People can also contact Richard Neufeld, the manager at Land Development Services, at 306-634-1820 or by emailing r.neufeld@estevan.ca.
