Ongoing wildfires in the province have taken a sharp turn for the better, as recent rains up north have cut the amount of active fires nearly in half in around a week.
As of 10:00 a.m. yesterday, August 25, there were 45 active wildfires in Saskatchewan. Of those active fires, 10 were categorized as contained, one was not contained, 30 were ongoing assessments, and four were listed as protecting values.
Saskatchewan has also slipped below last year's wildfire numbers, with 469 currently year-to-date compared to 2024's 523, though still higher than the five-year average of 397 wildfires to date.
As a result of the improved weather conditions and the reduced threat of wildfires, there are currently no evacuated communities in the province, and all highway access is open.
The lone uncontained fire in the province, the MUSKEG fire, is located North of La Plonge Reserve and Beauval. Crews remain battling the fire and targeting hot spots.
