Fresh off a dramatic playoff win at the 20th Annual Saskatchewan Open Provincial Championships, Moose Jaw’s Drew Biette is setting his sights on the national stage. He’ll be competing at the Canadian Disc Golf Championship in Port Hope, Ontario, the weekend of September 13.
Biette secured first place in the Mixed Pro Open Division at the Deja Vu Disc Golf Course after a tense tiebreaker against a fellow competitor, clinching the win on hole one. “It was a great tournament,” Biette said. “We had amazing tournament directors, and the playoff made it even more exciting.”
This marks Biette’s third consecutive year of success at provincials—he won the Mixed Amateur division in 2024 and placed fourth in the Junior Under 18 category in 2023. But this year’s win means just a bit more. “To say you’re the best in Saskatchewan is a goal I’ve worked hard for,” he stated.
Competing on his home course at Deja Vu Disc Golf gave Biette a strategic edge. "It definitely was an advantage because I kind of know what's coming up and how to play the holes and the different routes and stuff like that that others may not take."
Looking ahead, Biette is preparing for nationals with a focus on field work and putting into practice. “Nationals will be a lot tougher,” he said. “But I’m excited to learn, meet new people, and just have fun.”
Earlier this year, Biette placed 23rd at the Junior Disc Golf World Championships held in Emporia, KS, proving he can hold his own on a bigger stage. Now, he’s ready to represent Saskatchewan once again.
