A Calgary police officer has been charged following allegations of theft from hardware stores in Calgary and surrounding areas.

Police say they received a complaint in August about fraudulent activity and multiple thefts from hardware stores.

Investigators allege items worth more than $10,000 were stolen over a 12-month period.

Const. Bradley Tepper, 52, a 20-year member of the service, was relieved of duty from the CPS on Aug. 26 and charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000.

He is expected to appear in court on Sept. 24.

“When a criminal investigation involves one of our own members, it has the potential to undermine trust and confidence in our Service,” Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan said in a statement. “With investigations like this, our responsibility to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation is integral to upholding our principles of accountability and integrity.”
