Fresh off winning a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles at the Canada Summer Games, Swift Current's Carter Tuplin is off to Texas to start the next step of his junior hockey career.

He has joined the El Paso Rhinos of the North American Hockey League.

"I've played hockey all around Western Canada," Tuplin said. "When this opportunity came up and what the program was offering me and what they could provide me with, it was a no-brainer to go down there. I think sports is a good opportunity to travel in North America."

He has a couple goals in mind with the Rhinos.

"Obviously, to win the (championship) is our biggest goal down there," Tuplin said. "I want to just keep improving. Last year I think I was around half a point per game. This year right around a point per game and just being a leader on the team."

Tuplin had 16 points in 30 games for the Columbia Valley Rockies in the KIJHL last season.

He had 69 points to lead the Swift Current U18 AA Broncos in scoring in the 2023-24 season.

Tuplin was also the Swift Current Comprehensive High School's Male Outstanding Graduating Athlete of the Year in 2024-25.
