It was a marathon and not a sprint for the Wrinkled Warriors.

The Swift Current based Slo-Pitch team won bronze at the Saskatchewan Senior Fitness 55+ Provincial Games in Swift Current.

"It was a lot of ball, a lot of heat, and a lot of fun," said Warriors player Rob Myers. "We had a great time."

They beat the Regina Ruckus 18-2 in the bronze medal game.

The Swift Current-based club went 0-3 on Day 1, falling10-4 to the Ruckus, 14-13 to the Saskatoon Silver Foxes, and 11-7 to the Saskatoon Red Aces.

They started this morning with a 23-13 loss to the Regina Cruch and were forced to play a qualifying game to make the medal round.

That's when the Warriors got their game together and beat the Saskatoon Silver Foxes 15-4.

"We just got our bats woke up," Myers said. "We started playing some good D, turning some double plays, and making it happen."

They then lost the semifinal to the Cruch before matching up with the Ruckus in the bronze medal game.

It was a bit of redemption after opening the tournament with a loss against the Regina team.

"Our D was really good," Myers said. "I think the other team was a little fatigued. We seemed to find that extra gear and didn't let up the whole game."

It was a good feeling for the local club to win a medal at an event in their community.

"It's a great experience," Myers said. "It feels great, and it's always nice to win. Gold or silver would have been better, but we'll take the bronze."

The Warriors played seven games over the two days to secure the medal.

Tomorrow is the final day of the 55+ games in Swift Current until they come back for curling in the fall.
