Local artisans continue to keep crafting and cooking traditions alive in an era where consumers can pick up most anything their hearts desire. Practitioners of traditional arts keep their passions alive by passing them on to new generations.

The Humboldt and District Museum is playing an important part in preserving those traditions by hosting Heritage Skills Revival Day at the Museum on Saturday, September 6 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm.

The afternoon showcases the talented people from the community who are keeping heritage skills alive and well. This year, the Museum takes up the theme of what was traditionally called “women’s work.”

The following experts will be on hand that day:

  • The skill of quilting with Carol Oleksyn

  • The skill of making herbal remedies with Marie Saretsky

  • The skill of wool spinning with Pat Clarke - give it a try!

  • The skill of cross-stitching with Taylor Moisan - give it a try!

  • The skill of rug-hooking with Michelle Peltier - give it a try!

There will also be homemade apple pie with old-fashioned ice cream available for just $4 a slice.

The event is for people of all ages. Come down to the Museum on Sept. 6 and be part of preserving these wonderful artistic traditions.

Also, don’t forget the final barbecue and concert for the season happening outside the Museum over the noon hour on September 4. Enjoy a burger and some great live music by Lady Friday, and you’ll be supporting the Humboldt Independent Travel Club.

Thank you to the Humboldt Area Arts Council for sponsoring the musical performance.
