Those heading to the mountains just west of us, be aware of a fire advisory that is in place.
As of Wednesday, Aug. 27, a Fire Advisory has been issued for the Calgary Forest Area portion of the Forest Protection Area.
This is due to the continued warm temperatures the area has been experiencing, which created conditions where wildfires can start and spread quickly.
When spending time outdoors, be cautious and avoid any activity that could create a spark that could ignite a wildfire.
With this advisory in effect, any burning without a valid fire permit, other than in a campfire, is prohibited, and the same goes for fireworks and exploding targets.
Existing fire permits are valid, but permit holders must follow the safe burning conditions that are outlined in their permits, and new permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis for essential burning only.
Safe campfires are still allowed in the Calgary Forest Area.
Those who have completed burns over the summer are encouraged to revisit the locations of the burns to make sure they have been fully extinguished and is cold to the touch.
With autumn approaching and the grasses beginning to dry, an unchecked, smoldering burn pile could easily ignite the dry grass, causing a wildfire.
On top of using extra caution with all agriculture and industry activity, all cooking or warming fires must be attended to at all times.
Those fires must be completely extinguished before leaving them alone.
Remember, soak it, stir it, and soak it again.
