The school year is fast approaching as summer ends this week, with teachers, students, and parents all working to get ready for the return to classes. For many of those schools, they'll hope to engage students with a whole new year of events, classes, and more to keep them learning.

Christa Walton, Vice Principal and Learning Facilitator at Sacred Heart School, says they're hoping to reconnect with the community following the summer.

"First is just growing those partnerships with our parents again and students, and just our community members, starting that out again. Also celebrating kind of our continued growth in the size of our French immersion program, our hockey academy, and of course our English program. We've seen some growth there."

With the new year, they've got a new theme as well, with Walton hoping it resonates with the wider community.

"We are super excited to have them back in the building and start a new year of learning and growing together. Our division theme this year is Pilgrims with Hope, Anchored in Christ. That's just reminding us as a group here that our faith is kind of grounding everything we do here."

Walton hopes that families will engage with the school both during school hours and through their regular events and meetings.

"Come in and check us out. We've got our back-to-school barbecue (today), so all the students can come in early. That's for new and old. We've got our Catholic Community School Council annual general meeting on September 9th, so they can come check us out at that if they want, because we are also in kind of the final stages of raising some money for some play structures and stuff."

Walton says that welcoming the community to a new school year is highly anticipated for the staff at Sacred Heart School.

"We've got a lot of new students, new staff, new positions this year in kind of some supportive roles. So we're really excited, and it seems like our little family here is growing. So yeah, that'd be a good year."

The new school year begins on September 2nd, with their BBQ beginning at 4 p.m. today.
