The Swift Current SPCA received grant funding from the Innovation Federal Credit Union earlier this year as part of their yearly community support.
The $25,000 came through on the Legacy Community & Development Grant Fund on February 14. The SPCA will be using this money to help construct its new shelter and pet crematorium.
Dan Johnson, CEO of the Innovation Federal Credit Union, talks about why they chose to support the SPCA's goals with their new facility via this grant funding.
"I think their application just identified a number of things that made total sense for us to step up to the plate and help them out," said Johnson. "And I think for those who were involved in this SPCA or know about it, I think they would agree about the importance of them getting a new facility."
The Grant applications are processed according to how well they fit the key themes Innovation wishes to uphold. For Johnson, that means taking a focus on capital-type infrastructure.
The Grant funding was the first donation to the project from Innovation, but they also managed to raise some additional funds for the SPCA project during their Annual and Special Meeting on June 26. That led to an additional donation of $3,660.
"We're really excited to be able to showcase one of our partners during our Annual General Meeting," said Johnson. "That's what we did (with the SPCA) at our most recent annual meeting."
Another recent set of contributions made via the Grant program was to the Swift Current Story Trail for $10,000 and the Gravelbourg Fire Department for $15,000.
