Crop Residue Burning Restrictions in Manitoba

From Friday, August 1 to Saturday, November 15, 2025crop residue burning is not authorized in the following municipalities except by permit:

  • Rosser
  • Headingley
  • St. François Xavier
  • Cartier
  • Macdonald
  • Ritchot
  • Taché
  • Springfield
  • East St. Paul
  • West St. Paul

Additionally, for Thursday, August 28, 2025crop residue burning is prohibited across all municipalities and zones in Manitoba due to poor ventilation conditions. Burning is only permitted with a valid permit.

Important Notes:

  • Burning in designated “Burning Permit Areas” requires a permit issued by Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources.
  • Burning within the City of Winnipeg requires a permit from the City of Winnipeg.
  • Check with your local RM office for any additional restrictions.

Year-round Restrictions:

  • Nighttime burning of crop residues is strictly prohibited.

Safe Burning Practices:

  • Always use proper fire-guarding and supervision.
  • Smoke must not obscure public roadways or cause issues for nearby residents.
