Winnipeg, MANITOBA – This summer, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba (Habitat Manitoba) is welcoming home four families across Manitoba in Brandon, Selkirk and Winnipeg.
Habitat for Humanity builds, retrofits and finances safe, affordable homes locally and around the world, working alongside the individuals and families who buy them. Habitat brings people together to build homes, strengthen communities, and create opportunity.
The social and economic benefits of Habitat’s homeownership program reach far beyond individual families. They bolster the province and nation’s economy and productivity into the future. In a five-year period from 2019-2023, the total economic footprint of Habitat’s work to build and rehabilitate homes was $311 million, generating nearly $40 million in tax revenues.
Through the Affordable Housing Fund under the National Housing Strategy, the Government of Canada has made a total funding commitment of $11.7M towards Habitat Manitoba projects, including these homes. This funding commitment includes a Black Families Funding investment of $7.6M.
“Housing is more than a roof. It’s footing in a community, and a promise that no one stands alone,” said Ginette Lavack, Member of Parliament for St. Boniface – St. Vital, on behalf of the Honourable Gregor Robertson, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for Pacific Economic Development Canada. “It’s a place where people find safety, stability, and a sense of belonging. The investments in these new homes will make a real impact on lives in Brandon, Selkirk, and Winnipeg.”
The largest source of funding for building Habitat Manitoba homes is the mortgage payments made by our 260+ families who are benefiting from the Habitat model in providing safe and decent homes for their children. The second largest source of funds comes from the generous individuals, community groups, businesses and/or corporations in Manitoba who collaborate with us in so many ways to work alongside our families.
“The journey to homeownership is a process that calls for dedication, determination, effort, and time from future homeowners,” says Jamie Hall, CEO of Habitat Manitoba. “This investment not only supports their long-term success but also plays a vital role in making it possible to build more homes for other families across our province.”
In 2025, Habitat Manitoba is on track to present keys to at least 26 families in Winnipeg and across Manitoba. In Winnipeg, we are currently building a 55-home project on Pandora Avenue West in Transcona that will house approximately 275 people, including 175 children.
25 families have already moved into their homes within the development. We look forward to welcoming another 10 families in 2025, and in 2026 we are scheduled to complete the final 20 homes.
Habitat Manitoba has also started work on building housing for 20 families on Panet Avenue in the Concordia area of Winnipeg. The first two families moved in June 2025.
Habitat Manitoba also supports a strong network of Chapters in 10 communities across Manitoba where community volunteers raise funds and build homes for selected families in their communities. In 2025, 4 families will purchase their new homes in our Chapter communities.
