Almost $900 was raised for the Weyburn Salvation Army at today's final Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity Barbeque.

The fifth and final Great Plains Taste of Summer Charity Barbeque was a raging success as the community showed up one last time to support a local charity, this time the Weyburn Salvation Army. Community ministries worker Nicole Strickland says all the funds will help fill up the shelves at the food bank.

“We are really needing more food right now, and it gives us the opportunity to go to the grocery store and buy the stuff we need to stock the shelves.”

Weyburn came together to raise $697, and when the barbeque ended at 1:30 p.m., Great Plains Ford bought every hot dog left on the grill, bringing the total to $897. Strickland expresses her thanks to the community for their support.

“It was great fun. It was fun to see even people from different organizations coming to work at it and watch families come down and get their three-dollar lunches.”

Today’s barbeque marked the end of this year’s Taste of Summer Charity Barbeque events, hosted by us here at DiscoverWeyburn, Magic 103, Country 106.7, and AM1190 in partnership with the City of Weyburn.

Thousands of dollars were raised for five important organizations thanks to the support of our community, and help from Stewart Steel, Goliath Disposal, Whitebear Lake and Resort, Quality Plumbing and Heating, Pharmasave, Absolute Supervision Ltd, and Kal-Tire.
