There isn't anything quite like Friday night high school football.
The Swift Current Comprehensive High School Colts open their football season this evening against Weyburn.
"It's almost tough to describe," said Colts defensive backs coach and former player Tyson Congdon. "Getting to open your season on a year that we're pretty excited about at home against a team that we really would like to beat, that's going to be pretty special for the guys."

The Colts picked their roster and have been preparing for their opening game throughout the week.
"We're super excited," said Congdon. "I think that we have a really great group of guys. The past couple of weeks, we've gotten started with practices, and there's really good intensity levels. Everyone's competing. Everyone's out there doing all they can to earn their spot on the field. And we're looking forward to getting to put it to the test against Weyburn."
He is impressed with the athleticism among their defensive backs.
"They're looking pretty good," Congdon said. "We're hoping that we can put some points on the board as a defense, get some picks, force the ball out, create some turnovers. Lots of good athletes that are DBs is going to be a difficult choice to decide who gets to be a starter."
The Colts are also marking minor football day as part of their game.
"We're super excited that we're able to work together with the Colts," said Congdon, who is also president of SCMF. "That's really the goal of minor football is to get kids through our ranks and send them off to their high schools and make sure that the players at the Colts or any other local high schools, they're getting kids that know how to play football and they're ready to play at that level."
The Swift Current U14 team is in Weyburn tomorrow, while their other minor football teams play their first games on Monday.
