RCMP say a 49-year-old man is in custody after a firearms incident in Vermilion prompted a shelter-in-place order Saturday evening.
Police responded around 7:15 p.m. to a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators say the suspect fled the scene on foot while carrying a firearm, leading RCMP to advise residents in part of the community to stay indoors.
At 9:15 p.m., officers located the suspect at a local residence and arrested him without further incident.
Bradley Friesen of Vermilion has been charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and pointing a firearm.
He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Vegreville on Sept. 8.
RCMP say the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering.
Mounties thanked residents for their cooperation during the incident and credited responding emergency crews for their assistance.
