As school is set to start for another year, 2 of our 3 girls are going into new grades (the other is in pre-K), and are excited to see new teachers, new friends etc. Yet, the parental fear is always there; will they make new friends?

Even with established friends, and no concern shown by either kid about going into a new grade with a new teacher, and many of your friends not being in that same class this year, I still have that fear. The what if. What if they don't meet anyone new, or they miss their friends. What if, what if, etc etc.

The reality is, it's not my fear to have. Neither of our older two girls have any worries and are excited about the prospect of new. I'm looking at it from a viewpoint of a 40+ year old person who, if I have to meet and make new friends, that sounds like a daunting task. I have my group, I'm pretty set. But if something were to come in and disrupt that, I wouldn't know what to do. From that, I need to take a step back and realize the resilience of kids. They're excited to meet new people, make new friends, and talk about it when they come home from school.

They'll all be alright once school starts. It's just me that needs to be consoled apparently.
