This morning, Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown shared his decision on whether he will be running for re-election.
Brown took to social media to share that he is not running for re-election, meaning Airdrie will have a new mayor by the end of October.
"I will say that my heart was 100 per cent in, but my head definitely needed some help. So, no, I won't be running," he shared on social media.
Brown has been the mayor of Airdrie since 2010.
"I really believe we're going to have some very competent candidates, either who have already put their name in or who're going to be putting their name in for mayor. So I'm excited about the future of this city."
After talking a little bit about what the job entails, Brown gave a sincere thanks and shared that it has been an awesome ride.
As of right now, other mayoral candidates include Dave Douglass, Tina Petrow and Heather Spearman. For confirmed council candidates, there are:
Simisola Obasan
Tomisin (Tomi) Adenipekun
Chad Stewart
Darrell Belyk
Chris Glass
Rekha Mehay
Jay Raymundo
Mo Fahad Shaukat
Maulik Shah
Anthony Morvillo
There are several Airdronians who have filed their notice of intent to run in the upcoming election.
The Airdrie Municipal Election will take place on October 20.
