This long weekend will be the final days of summer break for students, before heading back to school on Tuesday. Deputy Chief with the Weyburn Police Service, Shane St. John predicts busy highways.
“It's the last weekend before school. Sort of last hurrah, last long weekend. If people have nice weather, the highways will be busy with a lot of traffic, I'm sure, if it's hot out.”
St. John says while police operations will be running as usual, drivers may see an increase in police activity out on the highway.
“It just might be a few more checks on the highway. Our CTSS members might be a little farther out of town, checking people for impairment as well. So, just be prepared to be pulled over. Nothing out of the ordinary, but there will be more traffic, always is on the highways on long weekends, especially hot ones.”
He advises drivers to be careful when out on the road, and not to drive tired or impaired, noting that even the day after consuming alcohol, it can still be present in the blood stream.
“Pay attention to the other road vehicles and have a great long weekend. Get ready for school to get going again.”
