Residents of the Village of Macoun are being urged not to drink or cook with tap water following a serious advisory issued by the Water Security Agency (WSA) in consultation with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

Effective immediately at 4:15 PM on Thursday, August 28, the entire village has been placed under a Do Not Drink Notice due to potential contamination of the community’s well. The advisory upgrades a previously issued Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory and will remain in effect until further notice.

The advisory outlines that boiling, freezing, filtering, or adding disinfectants will not make the water safe. Bottled water should be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice, and preparing food.

To lift the advisory, the Village must meet several criteria, including:

  • Ruling out contamination through confirmation testing.
  • Producing water that meets the quality standards in the Village’s Permit to Operate.
  • Receiving two consecutive sets of bacteriological samples (six total), collected 24 hours apart, that test negative for contamination.

Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Village Office at 306-634-9352 or the Water Security Agency at 306-551-9412. For media inquiries, contact comm@wsask.ca.
