The City of Lacombe has issued its final back-to-school construction update, with major work continuing along 53 Street and near Lacombe Composite High School.

Deep utility replacement on 53 Street, from the 5-way stop to 56 Avenue, is complete, but heavy rainfall earlier this summer caused delays. The roadway will remain closed until mid-September as crews finish building the road base. Detours and posted signage remain in place.

The city says 53 Street has been repaved from the 5-way stop to 52 Avenue. Temporary stop signs were also placed at 52 Avenue and 53 Street during the 5-way stop closure, and officials say any decision on permanent signage will follow a review of traffic counts and warrant analysis.

Near Lacombe Composite High School, no-parking restrictions will be removed on the south side of 56 Avenue between 56 Street and 55 Street. The change will add 13 new on-street parking stalls, with work expected to wrap up in early September.

The city is thanking residents for their patience during what it calls a busy construction season and is wishing students and families a safe school year.
