The Estevan Public Youth Centre (EPYC) wrapped up its summer fundraising season with a sold-out event at Eddie Webster’s Lounge, drawing strong community support.
The evening featured live performances by local musician Connor Piche, who donated his time and talent to the cause. He performed two sets — one before and another after a lively trivia contest — which co-executive director Bonnie Chepil-Kvamme called an act of overwhelming generosity.
“It just makes me want to cry. I choke up every time I think about it,” she said. “He completely donated his wonderful vocal abilities and musical talent to us.”
The fundraiser was EPYC’s final push of the summer before the organization transitions back to its regular programming.
“The Estevan community did not disappoint in the least,” Chepil-Kvamme said. “The support was overwhelming.”
Eddie Webster’s also partnered in the effort, donating 20 per cent of lounge sales from the evening back to EPYC.
“They are all about supporting the youth,” Chepil-Kvamme said. “They’re definitely giving back to their community in any capacity they can.”
Co-executive director Maisey Daoust noted the event’s mix of music and trivia was a first for EPYC, and one they hope to repeat.
“I think it was a lot of fun, and it seemed like the reviews from people were good. Everybody seemed to be having a good time,” Daoust said. “Definitely something in our future that we want to look into again.”
With summer now over, EPYC is returning to its regular hours: Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
Both directors said they are grateful for the continued support of the community.
“We live in such an amazing place with such amazing people,” Daoust said. “It’s just so great to have a community that continues to support us in helping youth and making sure they have all the supports that they need.”
