Eugene “Gene” Walter Komonoski
October 3, 1934 – August 28, 2025
Eugene “Gene” Walter Komonoski of St. Gregor, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and community spirit that will be remembered for generations. Born on October 3, 1934, in Watson, SK to Peter and Katherine (née Marchuk) Komonoski, Gene grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep connection to the land. He attended Diamond Willow School and began his working life in seismic exploration during his early twenties. But it was the pull of home and family that brought him back to the Komonoski grain and cattle farm, where he cultivated not only crops but a life rooted in purpose and care. On October 13, 1958, Gene married the love of his life, Louise Bley, in Annaheim, SK. Together they built a warm and loving home, raising four children—two daughters and two sons—who were the pride of his life. Gene’s career was as diverse and hardworking as the man himself. He contributed to Doepker Industries, worked in construction, and served his community with distinction on the council for the R.M. of St. Peter, where he held the role of councillor and reeve for an incredible 34 years. His commitment to public service extended beyond politics—he was a tireless volunteer in the community of St. Gregor and at the local hospital, always ready to lend a hand or offer support. A true sportsman at heart, Gene found joy in coaching baseball and hockey, umpiring games, and participating in curling and snowmobiling. His hobbies also included leatherwork, hunting, and fishing—activities that reflected his love for craftsmanship and the outdoors. Known as a gifted handyman, Gene could fix just about anything, and he generously shared his skills with family, friends, and neighbors alike. Gene will be remembered not only for what he did, but for how he lived—with humility, generosity, and a quiet strength that inspired those around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he helped shape, and the family he cherished. Gene is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren: Bonnie Lee (Glen) Gerwing and their children Katelyn (Brad) and daughter Koa, and Kelsey (Corey); Terri (Gerard) Doepker and children Jordan (Robert) and sons Brady and Brooks, and Branden (Shennae); Korry (Pam) Komonoski and children Megan (Kian) and their family Theodore and Emma, Austin (Yasmeen) and son Luke; Darren (Sam) Komonoski and their daughter Quinn. He is also survived by his brothers John (Eleanor) Komonoski and Paul (Darlene) Komonoski; brother-in-law Willie Bley; and sisters-in-law Doreen (John) Urbanski, Annette Bley, and Marge Komonoski. Gene was predeceased by his wife Louise (née Bley) Komonoski; his parents Peter and Katherine (née Marchuk) Komonoski; his parents-in-law Henry and Thekla Bley; his brothers Orest Komonoski and Morris Komonoski; his sister Diane Komonoski; and his brother-in-law Harold Bley.
