Councillor Heather Spearman announced that she will be running for Mayor in the upcoming municipal election.
"The role of a mayor is not to chase photo ops or treat the job like the next rung on a political ladder,” Spearman said. “The role of a mayor is to bring people together and to make transparent choices that serve residents and families, while ensuring every tax dollar delivers tangible value.”
According to Spearman, since joining the council in 2021, she has championed healthcare advocacy, affordable housing, accessibility initiatives, and practical improvements to core services.
"You will see me at doors, at events, and online. Most importantly, you will see me listening, because I have heard you, and I will keep bringing your stories to every table where decisions are made."
Earlier today, Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown announced he will not be running for re-election. Spearman thanked Mayor Brown for his leadership and guidance over the past four years she has been a councillor.
“It has taken commitment and tenacity to push through some very challenging periods of city growth,” she said. “The work done to build relationships with businesses, governments of all levels, and municipalities across the province cannot be understated.”
DiscoverAirdrie will have a more in-depth interview with Spearman at a later time to talk about her campaign.
