The final week of the summer has come and gone, with Estevan Fire Rescue working through a busy week with plenty of calls to respond to.
On August 25, the week started with crews dispatched to a two-vehicle motor collision in the Southeast area of the city just before 8:00 a.m. Crews assisted along with EPS and EMS, with one vehicle suffering enough damage that it needed to be towed. No injuries were reported from the incident.
The next day, on August 26 at 12:45 p.m., crews were on the road to a field fire Northeast of Estevan in the R.M. of Estevan. Crews were able to contain and extinguish the fire without incident. No damages or injuries were reported, with the cause of the fire believed to be from haying operations taking place at the time.
Later in the day, at around 3:30 p.m., a crew headed out to a commercial fire alarm in the Northeast area of the city. Crew found no emergency was occurring, with the cause of the alarm being due to system maintenance taking place.
On August 27, just after 10:30 a.m., crews were dispatched for a dumpster fire at a commercial property in the Northeast area of the city. Crews extinguished the fire without incident, containing it to the dumpster with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is believed to be from the improper disposal of combustible materials.
On the 29th, just after 11:00 a.m., crews were alerted to a structure fire in the Northwest area of the city. Crews responded and quickly contained the incident. Damage to the building's mechanical appliances was reported, with no damage to the structure or injuries reported from the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
That evening, just after 7:00 p.m., crews headed out for a gas odor investigation in the Northeast area of the city. Crews determined that maintenance work was being performed at a commercial building, with small amounts of gas being vented from equipment. Crews ensured the area was safe and the building was properly ventilated before clearing the area and returning to the station.
Their last call of the summer on August 30 came in just before 8:30 p.m., with crews dispatched to a commercial fire alarm South of the city. Crews responded and found no emergency occurring, with the alarm due to a fault in the alarm system.
