A joint traffic enforcement operation just north of Okotoks led to two dozen tickets being issued on Thursday morning (Aug. 28).
The Calgary Police Service (CPS), Alberta Sheriffs, and the RCMP teamed up for the one-hour blitz along the Macleod Trail S.W. and Highway 2A corridor.
The busy stretch of road has seen several serious collisions in recent years.
Police issued 24 tickets in total, with 14 for speeding, including one driver caught travelling 33 km/h over the posted limit.
Eight were for equipment violations and failure to produce documents, while the remaining two were issued for running a red light and failing to stop at a stop sign.
"It may sound like a common saying, but the truth is speed kills," said CPS Staff Sgt. Scott Neilson, who coordinated the operation. "No matter how skilled you think you are, when you're driving at the speeds our officers are seeing, you simply can't react quickly enough to sudden changes on the road."
Neilson credited the collaboration between the three agencies for the success of the operation.
He noted that additional joint operations are planned for the future to help improve safety along the heavily travelled corridor.
