The Fort Macleod Health Centre emergency department is temporarily closed today (Sept. 3), from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., due to an unexpected gap in personnel.

During the closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for long-term care residents.

Patients can access emergency services at the Chinook Regional Hospital, the Pincher Creek Health Centre, the Cardston Health Centre, or the Claresholm Community Health Centre.

EMS calls will be rerouted to the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

For non-emergency health-related questions, residents can call Health Link at 811 or call their family physician for non-emergency medical care.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is thankful for the support of the surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and thanks the community for its patience and understanding during the closure.

“Our mission is to provide excellent, patient-focused healthcare that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans,” an AHS Public Service Announcement said. “Our current focus is on reducing emergency department wait times, improving EMS response times, increasing access to surgeries, and improving patient flow.”
