A Leader-raised man facing a litany of charges was recently sentenced on one of several counts stemming from a series of various incidents, including driving while intoxicated.
26-year-old Nickalaus Bedore appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday morning with multiple matters on the bench, pleading guilty to one count of driving while impaired.
Bedore was sentenced to a year-long driving prohibition, with violation subject to prosecution, and will be paying off a total $1,300 in fines for the next six months.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on April 23, Swift Current Municipal RCMP received a report from Bedore's roommate that he was driving a green Ford Ranger belonging to their landlord while impaired.
Police located the truck and found no evidence of alcohol. After detaining the accused, alcohol screening revealed blood alcohol content between 90 mg/L to 100 mg/L, or 0.09 BAC to 0.1 BAC.
"You've gone through some hard knocks," shared Judge Jacobson, the presiding judge. "I'm glad to see you're focusing on the future."
The Kindersley-born resident of Swift Current also pleaded not guilty to four counts on a separate matter, which includes a string of thefts taking place between June 1 and 12.
He faces half a dozen charges, including;
- Break-and-enter,
- Possession of break-in instruments,
- Flight from a police officer,
- Possession of property obtained by crime with a value over $5,000,
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and
- Failure to attend court.
Two separate counts were stayed, although Bedore will return to court in Swift Current on Wednesday, September 24, to face the remaining charges.
