Estevan Minor Hockey is gearing up for another busy season with returning board members, dedicated coaches, and a series of events aimed at engaging the local community.
Stephen Truman, the president of Estevan Minor Hockey, says the board has largely returned from last season, with a few new faces in the younger divisions and some shuffled roles to help the organization run smoothly. “Returning faces help keep everyone familiar with the goings-on of EMHA and make things run smoother,” Truman noted.
The coaching staff also remains strong, with most coaches continuing in their roles and some moving up through the ranks. The longtime U18AA coach, Aaron Miller, has stepped down after his sons finished hockey, with assistant Blaine Crest taking over the team. “Our house group coaches return year after year, which we’re very thankful for,” Truman said.
One highlight this season is a community logo contest, designed to refresh the Estevan Minor Hockey brand. Truman explained, “We want our members and the community to create an original logo that represents Estevan, our teams, and Bruins colors. The winning group will get a pizza party sponsored by EMHA.” Details for the contest are available on EMHA’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
Truman encourages players and fans to stay up-to-date through the organization’s website and social media channels. The season will feature a full slate of tournaments, beginning with the U13 Belay tournament at the end of October and concluding with a U7 event in early March. “Our tournaments have been well attended across southern Saskatchewan, and we expect another successful season,” he said.
In addition to regular season events, Estevan Minor Hockey will run its Progressive Lottery Raffle again this year, with tickets priced at $10 each. A minimum prize of $2,000 is guaranteed, with a chance at a $10,000 jackpot if all 4,000 tickets are sold.
Truman also highlighted summer activities, including successful conditioning camps and a girls’ hockey camp, and said the organization is now preparing for the upcoming double-A tryouts. “By the end of September, it will be full steam ahead on a new hockey season,” he said.
