ATCO Gas and Pipelines Ltd. is requesting approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to renew its franchise agreement with the Town of High River.

The agreement is proposed to be effective on Dec. 1 and expire on Nov. 30, 2035.

The agreement renewal will give ATCO Gas the right to deliver natural gas to High River.

The renewal includes a franchise fee to be collected by ATCO Gas and remitted to the Town of High River.

The proposed franchise fee is the same as the existing fee, sitting at 20 per cent, which is applied to the distribution tariff, consisting of distribution and transmission charges.

Based on the average monthly residential consumption of natural gas, the average monthly franchise fee paid by a residential customer is expected to remain at $9.40.

High River residents can submit any objections, concerns, or support for the application in writing to the town or to ATCO by Sept. 12.

If there are no submissions received, the AUC could decide on the application without further notice or without a public hearing.
