A Stavely resident has been charged with attempted drug exportation, after her luggage was stopped at the Calgary International Airport.

On Aug. 7, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers flagged luggage that contained approximately 4.5 kg of cannabis.

The suspect was arrested by CBSA officers, and a search of her carry-on luggage revealed 5.2 g of fentanyl, 2.1 g of cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.

The Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) in Alberta, CBSA, and Calgary Police Service were notified, and a criminal investigation was launched into the suspect and the seized drugs.

As a result of the investigation, Amy Diane Haydu, a 46-year-old resident of Stavely, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing contrary to section 9(2) of the Cannabis Act

  • Attempting to export goods that are prohibited, controlled, or regulated contrary to section 160 of the Customs Act.
