On Aug. 28 2025, Innisfail RCMP responded to a report of a fire near the Highway 54 bridge.
Innisfail Fire department had located 2 males burning copper wire.
When police arrived, the suspects attempted to leave the area in a truck and were stopped by police. During the traffic stop, police could see what was estimated to be over 100 lbs of stripped copper wire in the back of the truck.
The driver and passenger of the truck were arrested for possession of stolen property. A search of the truck resulted in the seizure of 187 lbs of copper wire. Also located were several break and enter tools.
Douglas MacQuarrie (49), a resident of Red Deer, is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of stolen property.
- Unlawful burning of hazardous material
- Possession of break and entering tools
- Failing to comply with release conditions
A judicial interim release hearing was held and MacQuarrie was remanded into to custody. His next court appearance is Sept. 10, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
Tristan Foley (29), a resident of Red Deer, is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of stolen property.
- Unlawful burning of hazardous material
A judicial interim release hearing was held and Foley was released by Justice of the Peace. His next court appearance is Sept. 10, 2025, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
