Celebrating the Life of Camilla Irene Beck (Cook)
Born December 30, 1934 – Passed Away September 3, 2025

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we remember the beautiful life of Camilla Irene Beck (née Cook), who was born at home west of Palmer, Saskatchewan, on a snowy December day in 1934. She joined her big sister Margaret and her loving parents, Harry and Irma Cook.

Camilla’s early years were spent in the Palmer area, where she attended school until Grade 10 before heading off to Moose Jaw for boarding school and later earning her Teacher’s Diploma from Normal School. She began her short career in education teaching in charming one-room schoolhouses across the province.

On July 18, 1956, Camilla married Norman Beck in Moose Jaw, SK after meeting on a blind date. This would transform her teaching career to a farm wife & homemaker, as they moved out to the farm south east of Mawer to begin their life.  They raised four wonderful, but busy children—Galen, Marvin, Theresa, and Lois. Her days on the farm were joyfully spent tending to her garden, keeping the home humming, and following the kids to hockey and ball games. She was a proud member of the Mawer Social Club, St. Mary’s Parish, and always made time for card games with friends and neighbors.

Though camping and boating weren’t her favorite pastimes, Camilla embraced them, simply because they brought her family joy. In 1979, Camilla and Norm built their retirement home in Central Butte, and moved to town in 1981. Lois was still in high school, so the house in town became a hub for her and her friends where Camilla made sure they were all fed and watered before their next activity.

Retirement brought new adventures - more camping trips, travel, and countless hours in her beloved garden. Camilla found joy in quilting, sewing, baking, and even took up golf for a few years. She spent her evenings in the winter watching hockey at the rink, or curling on TV.

Camilla’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special to her. They will always remember:

Her sweet kisses on the great grandchildren’s cheeks

Gigi always had candy to share with the Great Grandkids… and Reid.

Her signature farewell: “Be good & come again”

Instead of swearing around the children, she would say “oh CORN!”

The friendly competition to be her #1 grandchild sparked early on by Marvin. She never really picked one, but all signs always pointed to Ryan.

Grandma’s house was a hub for after school hangouts & a good escape for lunch - which was always Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Grandma’s fresh buns were the perfect vessel to have an eating competition with.

Camilla is lovingly remembered by her children: Galen Beck (Dolores Brack), Theresa Beck (Glenn Seaborg), daughter-in-law Julia Beck, and Lois Elia (Gino). Her grandchildren - Kassey (Nelson), Jeffrey (Ashley), Ryan (Becky), Reid (Ashley), Naomi, Christian (Ava), and Easton (Vanessa); and great-grandchildren - Hannah, Marlee, Alex, Ava, Lily, Beckett, Ellyse, and Madyn.

She is reunited with her husband Norman, her son Marvin, her parents Harry and Irma, and her sister Margaret Otterson.

A small family service will be held in Humboldt, followed by a come-and-go community celebration of Camilla’s life at 2:00pm Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Legion in Central Butte, SK.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Butte & District Recreation Board, honoring Camilla’s appreciation for community.
