Saskatchewan is sending a delegation to the United Kingdom next week to promote the province’s role in global nuclear development and strengthen international partnerships.
Crown Investments Corporation Minister Jeremy Harrison will lead the mission to the World Nuclear Symposium, which runs Sept. 1 to 6 in London. The event marks the symposium’s 50th anniversary and brings together industry leaders, governments, and researchers from around the world.
Harrison said the trip will showcase Saskatchewan’s uranium resources, supply chain capacit,y and research expertise while advancing the province’s participation in the global push to triple nuclear energy production by 2050.
“We have the uranium, a robust supply chain and mining sector, world-class research institutions and strong public support,” Harrison said in a statement. “While exploring nuclear to ensure our own future energy security, Saskatchewan has what the world needs, right here at home, to support nuclear development around the globe.”
The Saskatchewan delegation will join panels hosted by the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce and the Energy Users Summit, and present updates on the province’s nuclear energy plans at a Canadian Nuclear Association–Nuclear Industry Association forum.
Cameco CEO Tim Gitzel said the mission highlights Saskatchewan’s importance in the global nuclear supply chain. “The symposium is a global gathering that brings together stakeholders from across the nuclear energy sector and is a great opportunity for Cameco to promote our vision of powering a secure energy future,” he said.
Saskatchewan mines all of Canada’s uranium and is the world’s second-largest producer. The province is also advancing domestic projects, including SaskPower’s exploration of nuclear power generation and the Saskatchewan Research Council’s microreactor initiative.
The government noted the trip builds on previous collaborations with the United Kingdom, including academic partnerships and joint industry events.
