As Carlyle enters what Mayor Jennifer Sedor calls its “maintenance era,” the town is making strategic upgrades and preparing for future growth, including a major new school project and improvements to key community facilities.
Visitors to Main Street may have noticed construction at the corner of the town hall. The project involves installing a fully functional accessible door and wheelchair ramp, part of a larger plan to make the facility fully accessible. Sedor emphasized the significance of the upgrades: “When you have a facility that has been the heartbeat of the community for 70 years, and it hasn’t been accessible to everyone, this is a huge step forward.”
The town recently completed a refurbishment at the local swimming pool, including relining and updates to the deep end. While these projects are primarily maintenance-focused, they ensure accessibility and enhance quality of life in Carlyle.
Carlyle is also supporting the school division and government in a major school project. The town is still fundraising, with only a few hundred thousand dollars left to reach the goal. Sedor said, “It is looking like we’re going to break ground on that in the spring… which is really good. That still puts us about that later 2028 opening. And I say that with a grain of salt because things change so readily.”
Other infrastructure improvements include road work, new sidewalks, safety signage, and preparing for a lower speed limit near schools. About these maintenance projects, Sedor noted, “It feels like all the boring stuff’s happening, but it’s going to pay dividends in terms of what it feels like to live here.”
Reflecting on the summer, Sedor shared that Carlyle offered plenty of opportunities for fun and community connection. The town kicked off the season with Carlyle Fun Days, one of the province’s largest free festivals. She said, “I am the person who plans this vacation every summer, and I don’t do winter vacation because I think this is the most beautiful place on earth.” She and her family enjoyed local lakes, trails, kayaking, and even camping at Lions Park campground, taking advantage of everything the town has to offer.
Mayor Sedor emphasized that while Carlyle focuses on maintenance and infrastructure, the community continues to thrive with accessibility upgrades, cultural events, and recreational opportunities, ensuring a strong foundation for the town’s future.
