Southwestern Saskatchewan could experience an early first frost of the season on Friday night.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says there's a risk of frost overnight for most of the province.

The potential for frost is two weeks ahead of Swift Current's average first frost of the summer and fall.

Crawford Luke, meteorologist with Environment Canada, said once the wind dwindles Friday night, the chance for frost will rise.

"Calm winds and clear skies are the perfect recipe for temperatures to really cool off," he said. "Looks like tonight we're going to be going down to near freezing or perhaps even below freezing in a few spots. I expect there could be a pretty good frost for many people when they wake up Saturday morning."

Swift Current, Leader, and Lucky Lake's projected overnight low is 1 °C, according to Environment Canada. While Maple Creek, Eastend, and Val Marie are expected to be warmer at 2 °C.

"(The temperature) can vary so much over such a short distance," he said. "If you have experience where you found that you get a heavier frost than other areas around you, you would definitely be at risk tonight. Honestly, I don't know if anyone's going to truly escape from it tonight."

Temperatures and conditions will rebound by Sunday with highs of 28-29 °C with sunshine projected through Tuesday, before rain is forecasted on Wednesday and Thursday.
