Write Out Loud is gearing up for another season, sharing creativity, inspiration, and stories, with the first presentation coming up next week in Swift Current.
Sharon Butala, an acclaimed, Saskatchewan-born writer, is set to grace the Lyric Theatre's stage on Wednesday, September 17.
The author of more than 20 novels shared that she'll be talking about her latest memoir at the Write Out Loud.
"In a week, I'm launching my 23rd book, and it'll be my third memoir," she said. "It's called How to Breathe Water, which is an odd name, but titles are supposed to be intriguing."
How to Breathe Water is a memoir detailing the journey Butala took alongside a close friend last summer as they rediscovered nostalgic treasures on the prairies.
"I said to her: this week-long drive of ours encompasses my life since I was 13 years old, and we moved from the north, it would make a wonderful frame for a memoir," said Butala. "She agreed with me, and she's a writer too, but then we just both stopped paying attention to it.
"It nagged me and nagged me until a year later, I began writing."
Butala is also well known for her and her late husband's donation of land, which makes up a part of Old Man on His Back Prairie and Heritage Conservation Area, to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. while live music from Swift Current's own Brad Mahon kicks off at 7:00 p.m. and Butala's presentation is set to follow.
