A total of 93 calls for service were made to the Weyburn Police Service from August 24th to August 31st, resulting in a few notable events from the week. 

On Wednesday, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 39 and Government Road. Investigation revealed that the driver on the highway disregarded a red light, colliding with the driver on Government Road. Both vehicles were significantly damaged and required towing from the scene. Fortunately, no resulting injuries were reported to the police. The at-fault driver was charged accordingly under the Traffic Safety Act.

The following day, police were called to a local business after a man was reported to be stealing items. He fled on foot after being confronted, however, officers were quickly able to locate him walking by the highway in possession of the stolen property. He was arrested without incident and released under conditions.

The week overall saw a high number of noise complaints regarding barking dogs were made to the WPS. Police are reminding local pet owners that they are responsible for controlling excessive barking and the excuse that "dogs bark" will not suffice. They warn that failing to do so can result in being ticketed.

Finally, students returned to school this week and the WPS is reminding drivers to be cautious in school zones. Officers will be actively patrolling school zones, and reminding drivers to slow down, be patient, and be on the lookout for pedestrians and other vehicles. This ensures the safety of students as they make their way to and from school.
