The Saskatchewan Public Health Authority has declared the former Richmound School unfit for habitation due to unsanitary conditions.

Posted at the front gate, a notice from the SPHA declared that the facilities were not connected to a lawfully operating sewage system. As such, in accordance with The Public Health Act, 1994, the building has officially been declared as unfit for habitation.

The notice posted also calls upon the owner of the building to remedy the deficiencies found within. The owner of the building, Ricky Manz of Richmound, appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court on Friday and is currently being held in custody while awaiting a bail hearing on Monday.

Residents occupying the former Richmound School have until the end of the day Friday, September 5, to evacuate the placarded areas of the premises. This order falls under Section 22(2) of The Public Health Act, 1994.

Swift Current Online will provide updates on the situation as it unfolds.
