A late four-quarter touchdown and two-point conversion by Rayan Yuhas-Gebhart was too much for the Swift Current Comp. Colts to overcome Friday night.
Cade Sanderson clawed Swift Current within a point with 1:48 left in the game, scoring a 76-yard punt return, but the Colts' extra point kick was blocked as they ultimately fell 22-21 to the Moose Jaw Peacock Tornadoes at Colts Field.
The Colts raced out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter as Kye Griffin made a 30-yard field goal on Swift Current's opening drive and Nate Siemens punched in a one-yard rushing touchdown. Siemens' short-yardage play was set up by a 47-yard pitch and run by Jake Woods.
Tornadoes receiver Nate Measner hauled in a 46-yard reception for a touchdown with 1:34 remaining in the first half, slicing the Colts' lead to 9-6.
Moose Jaw took the lead with 7:17 left in the third quarter as Micah Coupland found the end zone on a 12-yard passing play, pushing the Tornadoes up 14-9.
Siemens answered with another one-yard rushing touchdown with 1:24 remaining in the third quarter as Swift Current regained the lead at 15-14.
Yuhas-Gebhart's 7-yard touchdown courtesy of quarterback Ethan Durant's passing put the Tornadoes up 20-15. Yuhas-Gebhart then found the end zone on a short run for a two-point conversion.
Sanderson responded for Swift Current, but the missed extra point was the difference as the Colts fell to 1-1 on the season.
