Two homes were damaged in a fire early Saturday morning in the city’s North End — including a house that has caught fire multiple times over the past two years.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says crews responded at 12:29 a.m. to the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they found two homes ablaze. One of the properties was vacant and boarded up.
Crews initially fought the fire from the outside using a defensive attack strategy, then switched to an interior attack once conditions were safe. The fire was declared under control at 1:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported. Damage estimates are not yet available, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to the city, one of the houses involved in Saturday’s fire had previously been damaged by fires in November and December 2023, and again on October 16, October 27, and in November 2024.
The city is reminding residents to report suspicious activity around vacant buildings. Anyone who sees someone actively entering or removing boards from a vacant property is urged to call 911. If boarded windows or doors appear breached but no one is seen entering, residents should report it to 311.
