St. Giles Anglican Church welcomed the community for its annual fall trade show this week, offering visitors a chance to browse locally made items and enjoy a homemade soup and sandwich lunch.
Wendy Godfrey, the rector’s warden at St. Giles, said the event featured a variety of vendors selling everything from handmade crafts to delicious treats. “Some delicious things, some pretty things, all kinds of things,” she said. “And we also have a soup and sandwich lunch taking place with some really, really good soup this time. I’ve been able to smell it all morning.”
Godfrey praised the volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly. “We have people who have actually made the soup and donated it. Same with the sandwiches. Then the kitchen people serve, keep things tidy and clean, and clean up when they’re done. We’re really thankful to have such great volunteers.”
The church also recently completed its summer peach fundraiser, selling 400 cases at $20 each to support St. Giles. “They’re absolutely the best peaches in the world,” Godfrey said. “We’re thrilled to be able to make that kind of money to support the church.”
Looking ahead, the church has a unique event planned for October 5. Godfrey invited the community to the pet blessing service during the regular 10 a.m. Sunday service. “You’re welcome to bring your pets. Cats, dogs, we’ve had hedgehogs, we’ve had snakes, any kind of animal you want, and our priest will bless each animal,” she said. Donations of pet supplies for the Humane Society are welcome but not required, with the open offering also going to the society that day.
The fall trade show and summer fundraisers highlight St. Giles’ ongoing commitment to engaging the community while supporting local causes.
